Before & After School Program 2023 - 2024 - Before School Program 23-24
We strive to offer children a program that is affordable, fun and safe. One of the key elements of this program is “play!" Through play, children increase their social competence and emotional maturity. Activities will include indoor and outdoor sports, group games, arts & crafts, music, dance and occasional field trips. Each day quiet time will also be offered for participants to complete daily homework.A parent handbook has been prepared for your convenience. It informs you of our policies and procedures as well as to provide valuable information to help you to navigate the many details involved with this program. For information about Scholarships and/or financial support please click HERE.General InformationWho: Children in grades K-5 who attend Edna Libby, Steep Falls and George E. Jack Elementary Schools.Where: George E. Jack Elementary School. Participants who do not attend George E. Jack during the day will be transported by the MSAD6 transportation department. Parents are responsible for making sure to set up transportation with the department. Drop off and pick up are at the side entrance of George E. Jack. Before School Program (BSP): Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m., excluding all school vacations, in-service days, holidays, or snow days at G.E. Jack School. The BSP will not be held on any unscheduled late arrival days (such as those due to weather). Children attending Edna Libby and Steep Falls Schools will be transported from G.E. Tai Chi - Tai Chi Thursday begins 4.04.21
Tai Chi is a relaxing and gentle exercise program. It uses slow, multi-directional movements to tone muscles, increase flexibility, improve balance, and to enhance the immune system. Tai Chi also reduces stress and helps to quiet and focus the mind. Studies have shown that it is effective in reducing blood pressure. There are many articles you can research online regarding it's benefits. Tai Chi practice is the recommended exercise for people with MS, Parkinson's Disease, and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Daily practice gives an enhanced feeling of well-being.These classes are in the tradition of Chen Man Ching and Silk Reeling Chi Gong in the tradition of Grand Master Feng.Registration prior to class is mandatory and will be accepted at Town Hall or on-line at www.standishrec.com until the Wednesday before the class is held. Anyone wishing to register after the 8-week session begins will be charged for the entire class or a pro-rated fee of $8.00/class for the remainder of that session, whichever is lower.Please note: As a general rule, if the weather is bad and school is cancelled for MSAD6 we will NOT have class. Albert Delaney has studied Tai Chi with Grand Master William Chen, Chi Gong Master Kenneth Cohen, and Don Ethan Miller. He has been practicing Tai Chi for over twenty five years.

Participants will be picked up from school at Edna Libby School, George E Jack School, or Steep Falls Elementary School. Tai Chi - Tai Chi Thursday begins 4.04.21
Tai Chi is a relaxing and gentle exercise program. It uses slow, multi-directional movements to tone muscles, increase flexibility, improve balance, and to enhance the immune system. Tai Chi also reduces stress and helps to quiet and focus the mind. Studies have shown that it is effective in reducing blood pressure. There are many articles you can research online regarding it's benefits. Tai Chi practice is the recommended exercise for people with MS, Parkinson's Disease, and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Daily practice gives an enhanced feeling of well-being.These classes are in the tradition of Chen Man Ching and Silk Reeling Chi Gong in the tradition of Grand Master Feng.Registration prior to class is mandatory and will be accepted at Town Hall or on-line at www.standishrec.com until the Wednesday before the class is held. Anyone wishing to register after the 8-week session begins will be charged for the entire class or a pro-rated fee of $8.00/class for the remainder of that session, whichever is lower.Please note: As a general rule, if the weather is bad and school is cancelled for MSAD6 we will NOT have class. The Standish Active Seniors is a group of older adults from Standish and surrounding communities who regularly come together September through June for friendly conversation, community, and social connection. Each meeting brings a new educational topic or entertainment planned by the members.The group relies on member volunteers to organize theme events, decorate for holidays, plan events, and recruit new members to join. Tai Chi - Tai Chi Thursday begins 4.04.21
Tai Chi is a relaxing and gentle exercise program. It uses slow, multi-directional movements to tone muscles, increase flexibility, improve balance, and to enhance the immune system. Tai Chi also reduces stress and helps to quiet and focus the mind. Studies have shown that it is effective in reducing blood pressure. There are many articles you can research online regarding it's benefits. Tai Chi practice is the recommended exercise for people with MS, Parkinson's Disease, and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Daily practice gives an enhanced feeling of well-being.These classes are in the tradition of Chen Man Ching and Silk Reeling Chi Gong in the tradition of Grand Master Feng.Registration prior to class is mandatory and will be accepted at Town Hall or on-line at www.standishrec.com until the Wednesday before the class is held. Anyone wishing to register after the 8-week session begins will be charged for the entire class or a pro-rated fee of $8.00/class for the remainder of that session, whichever is lower.Please note: As a general rule, if the weather is bad and school is cancelled for MSAD6 we will NOT have class. St. Anthony's Monastery, Kennebunk - Kennebunk Trip to St Anthony's
Join us for a visit to the grounds of the St. Anthony's Monastery aka Franciscan Friary, which is about four miles from the town of Kennebunk. Formerly an estate, this facility has been owned and cared for by Lithuanian Franciscans since 1947. The Monastery is situated on 66 acres with rolling lawns, riverside walking paths and English Gardens designed by the landscape architect company of the Frederick Law Olmstead Brothers. As you meander through the peaceful pathways, you can also stop to rest on benches strategically placed along the route and at the outdoor chapels.After some time on the grounds - and in the gift shop - we will find some lunch in the area (on your own) before heading home.

Tai Chi - Tai Chi Thursday begins 4.04.21
Tai Chi is a relaxing and gentle exercise program. It uses slow, multi-directional movements to tone muscles, increase flexibility, improve balance, and to enhance the immune system. Tai Chi also reduces stress and helps to quiet and focus the mind. Studies have shown that it is effective in reducing blood pressure. There are many articles you can research online regarding it's benefits. Tai Chi practice is the recommended exercise for people with MS, Parkinson's Disease, and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Daily practice gives an enhanced feeling of well-being.These classes are in the tradition of Chen Man Ching and Silk Reeling Chi Gong in the tradition of Grand Master Feng.Registration prior to class is mandatory and will be accepted at Town Hall or on-line at www.standishrec.com until the Wednesday before the class is held. Anyone wishing to register after the 8-week session begins will be charged for the entire class or a pro-rated fee of $8.00/class for the remainder of that session, whichever is lower.Please note: As a general rule, if the weather is bad and school is cancelled for MSAD6 we will NOT have class. The Standish Active Seniors is a group of older adults from Standish and surrounding communities who regularly come together September through June for friendly conversation, community, and social connection. Each meeting brings a new educational topic or entertainment planned by the members.The group relies on member volunteers to organize theme events, decorate for holidays, plan events, and recruit new members to join. The Standish Parks & Recreation Department supports this group by scheduling space, serving meals, and promoting activities.New members are always welcome! Join us!

Tai Chi - Tai Chi Thursday begins 4.04.21
Tai Chi is a relaxing and gentle exercise program. It uses slow, multi-directional movements to tone muscles, increase flexibility, improve balance, and to enhance the immune system. Tai Chi also reduces stress and helps to quiet and focus the mind. Studies have shown that it is effective in reducing blood pressure. There are many articles you can research online regarding it's benefits. Tai Chi practice is the recommended exercise for people with MS, Parkinson's Disease, and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Daily practice gives an enhanced feeling of well-being.These classes are in the tradition of Chen Man Ching and Silk Reeling Chi Gong in the tradition of Grand Master Feng.Registration prior to class is mandatory and will be accepted at Town Hall or on-line at www.standishrec.com until the Wednesday before the class is held. Anyone wishing to register after the 8-week session begins will be charged for the entire class or a pro-rated fee of $8.00/class for the remainder of that session, whichever is lower.Please note: As a general rule, if the weather is bad and school is cancelled for MSAD6 we will NOT have class. Frank LLoyd Wright Houses Tour - Frank Lloyd Wright Houses
Join us for a visit to the Currier Museum of Art in Manchester, New Hampshire, and tour the only Frank Lloyd Wright buildings open to the public in New England! The Kalil House and the Zimmerman houses are historic structures with original floor plans and much of the original furniture. They were built in the 1950s when Wright’s domestic architecture reshaped American home design. The designs made use of natural light, local materials, flat roofs, and radiant floor heating. Over the course of his 70-year career, Wright became one of the most prolific, unorthodox and controversial masters of 20th-century architecture, creating no less than twelve of the Architectural Record’s hundred most important buildings of the century. When we arrive, we will spend time in the museum which features European and American paintings, decorative arts, photos, and sculptures. We can grab a bite to eat at the museum cafe ( on your own) before our tour of the houses leaves at 2:30 pm. The tour visits begin with a brief introduction, followed by self-guided exploration inside, with docents present to answer any questions. We will make a quick stop at the Kennebunk Service plaza on our way home (on your own). Although there are accessible spaces in both houses, there are also narrow hallways and doorways, some stairs, and uneven terrain.
