Tai Chi - Tai Chi Session Tai Chi is a relaxing and gentle exercise program. It uses slow, multi-directional movements to tone muscles, increase flexibility, improve balance, and to enhance the immune system. Tai Chi also reduces stress and helps to quiet and focus the mind. Studies have shown that it is effective in reducing blood pressure. There are many articles you can research online regarding it's benefits. Tai Chi practice is the recommended exercise for people with MS, Parkinson's Disease, and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Daily practice gives an enhanced feeling of well-being.These classes are in the tradition of Chen Man Ching and Silk Reeling Chi Gong in the tradition of Grand Master Feng.Registration prior to class is mandatory and will be accepted at Town Hall or on-line at www.standishrec.com until the Wednesday before the class is held. Anyone wishing to register after the 8-week session begins will be charged for the entire class or a pro-rated fee of $8.00/class for the remainder of that session, whichever is lower.Please note: As a general rule, if the weather is bad and school is cancelled for MSAD6 or if there was a 1-2 day delay, there will be no class. The session will be extended out another week.Date: Thursdays****There will be no class on 6/19/25***Cost: 8 week session $64 or drop in $9 per class
Albert Delaney has studied Tai Chi with Grand Master William Chen, Chi Gong Master Kenneth Cohen, and Don Ethan Miller. He has been practicing Tai Chi for over twenty five years.

Strength & Balance / Chair Yoga Combo - Strength & Balance / Chair Yoga Combo Please join us for this special summer session that combines Strength & Balance and Chair Yoga for 1 1/2 hour classes with Instructor Lisa King. "Strength and balance" refers to a combination of muscular power and the ability to maintain stability and control over your body position, essentially meaning having strong muscles that also allow you to stay balanced during movement.Chair yoga includes gentle stretches and movements, which can enhance flexibility in joints, strengthen muscles and help with better balance and stability - without putting excessive strain on the body where you can either sit in the chair or use it as a prop/support.According to Lisa..."Movement is medicine! Join this fun, dynamic class. Whether you’re looking to strengthen your muscles, build bone, support your joints, or improve your balance...this class is for you. Movement sequences are thoughtfully designed to safely and gradually explore therapeutic movements that will improve your quality of life. Strength training can be done with or without small hand weights. Much of the class can be done from a chair or from standing, and all are welcome!
