Please join us for an adventure to tour the Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals in Windham and possibly the opportunity to go
into the indoor arena for a brief demo with the MSSPA staff (and horses!)

This is how staff at this great facility explains to us..."Have you ever driven by that gorgeous horse farm on the River Road in Windham and wondered what kind of work gets done there? Now is your chance to find out!  The Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals has been doing life-saving work for over 150 years. The MSSPA is a private non-profit horse shelter where horses that have been seized by law enforcement from situations of abuse and neglect, or surrendered to the farm are welcomed to begin their rehabilitative journey.  The farm is usually home to between 35 or 40 horses, and on this tour, you'll learn all about the life-saving work that happens here, how horses find their way to the MSSPA, the remarkable recoveries they make, and the joyous 'outcome' when horses get adopted to their forever homes. This is a chance to stroll around the farm, meet these incredible, resilient animals, learn a bit about their backstories, and spend some time on a working horse farm."

Bring a picnic lunch to be enjoyed at picnic tables overlooking the paddocks.  Wear closed toe sturdy shoes for walking (the farm is fully walk-able, the roads are mostly dirt and gravel), and a brimmed hat and sunscreen if the sun is shining.  You'll get a chance to meet the horses (many come right over to the fence), and if you are a bit fearful of horses, this is a terrific and gentle way to meet them (and perhaps overcome your fear!).
We have been told this is an experience we will never forget!
