Maple soft serve - Provided by Yelp

Please join us for a tour at Thurston & Peters Sugarhouse in New Newfield. Be sure to have lunch at home, before hoping on the mini-bus, so we can enjoy ice cream after the tour.

Harry and Debi Hartford are 2 retired educators who love to share the history of the land they inherited from Harry's Mother. They have a story to tell about their land and the process of making maple syrup. A heated sugarhouse replaces an outdoor evaporator, previously housed in a shed on the hill. Buckets collected by hand, have been replaced by miles of plastic tubing. An oil fired evaporator replaces the wood. We will be able to experience how the tanks run during the maple syrup making process. This tour can take up to 1 1/2 hours including the tour, time for questions and a visit to their shop that offers a variety of products to purchase, as well as maple soft serve ice cream!

This trip does require some walking outside. Please wear comfortable footwear and dress in layers, since we live in Maine where the month of march can vary in temperature.

Cost: $10.00 includes transportation and tour (cost of products and ice cream on your own). Refunds will be given on a case-by-case basis.

We will meet at Standish Town Hall and leave promptly at 12:15pm and return at approximately 3:15pm. Please park in the upper-level parking lot.

Questions, contact Norma at nmarchant@standish.org or (207) 642-2875.
